Living in Santa Fe, New Mexico:
Tips for Moving and Visiting

Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico. If you are looking for a busy city with lots of businesses and opportunities I would consider moving to Albuquerque. Now if you are looking for a more mellow, rural place then I would consider where I live Santa Fe. Downtown Santa Fe has been businesses owned locally.
Anyone moving to Santa Fe should know about the beautiful weather. There are 300 days of sunshine throughout the entire year, which is seldom found in other places. Although in the desert, Santa Fe also experiences all four seasons, including having snow during winter and rain in summer.
You would need to know New Mexico’s official state question is “Red or green? “, which is commonly asked in local restaurants. This refers to the choice of red or green chile, and if you want both, you should respond with ‘Christmas’. The time of year is also important… green is much hotter in late summer/early fall as that is when it is freshly harvested, but milder at other times of the year due to being frozen, thawed, and then cooked.
New Mexico ranks consistently among the bottom for education. The natural scenery here is spectacular. The cost of living is fairly high, and there is virtually no middle class here. Affordable housing is also a major issue in Santa Fe. My home state also offers something other states don’t–the best green chile (sorry, Colorado!). Santa Fe is a food lover’s dream, but you will pay a pretty penny!
