San Miguel de Allende is a colonial town in central Mexico populated by artists, and expatriates. While it’s helpful to speak Spanish, many of the locals speak English fairly well. If you’re planning on living in the city, you don’t need to own a car since most places are within walking distance. There is a rich arts scene, and a ubiquity of wonderful restaurants and coffee shops. The climate is relatively temperate, but pack a raincoat and some thick sweaters—the temperature drops at night.
San Miguel de Allende is a magical town in central Mexico. It is, in fact, one of Mexico’s pueblos mágicos: a city that is significant to Mexico’s history and cultural heritage. Among other distinctions, it is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and was named the American Capital of Culture by the International Bureau of Cultural Capitals in 2019.
