The majority of the people speak Greek as a first language. English is widely spoken. The name of the town comes from the word “λίμνη” which means lake and “παρα” which means by. Protaras is the tourist area of the town, where you can find some of the most beautiful beaches of Cyprus. The population of the town is no more than 20,000 people.

Paralimni is only five km away from two of the best tourist areas in Cyprus, namely Protaras and Ayia Napa. Beaches like the “Fig Tree Bay” and “Nissi Beach”, which are usually ranked within the top beaches in Europe, are only a few minutes drive away. There is a huge seasonal lake just outside the city, which is where the city takes its name from. There are also amazing places to explore, the best and most famous being the area of Cape Greco, a picturesque landscape with many sea caves and great spots for watching the sunset.
