A potential, unique draw to this community is the local University found here: Iowa Wesleyan University. There was a time that this was actually a college. It is a quaint campus in the center of town with some green space and older brick buildings, a typical small town appearance for a small university. It is known within the community that the music program thrives in the school district, an integral part in bringing everyone together.

The music program in many ways is remarkable in the community, larger than many of the other small schools and some big schools around it. The marching band boasts over one hundred members every year, making up of a few drum majors, instrumentalists, and a color guard. In the winter and spring there is a jazz band as well as show choir. The other perk to living in a small, rural town is the ability to easily go out of town and enjoy the great outdoors. In any direction that you leave town there is some form of the outdoors, protected through public property for people to enjoy the trails or to hunt.
