Mission is a suburb of the Greater Kansas City area on the Kansas side of the state line. The city is a desirable location for families due to the high quality of local public schools, which are part of the Shawnee Mission School District. Local dining and nightlife options are limited primarily to chain restaurants and bars, but the myriad delights of Kansas City’s downtown area are only a short drive away.

When contemplating a move to Mission, Kansas, it’s important to consider how important you find your proximity to downtown Kansas City and the entertainment and amenities it offers. While Mission is a more inexpensive city in which to live, it also lacks some of the charm found just a short drive down Shawnee Mission Parkway into the Plaza District and beyond. Mission is, however, the home of a decent selection of Latin American mom-and-pop restaurants and numerous affordable fitness centers and grocers. There are also a number of green spaces nearby where you can go for a cycle or a jog, or take your four-legged friend for a walk.
