Mendota Heights is an ideal location for young families and retirees. Residents find the city is replete with trails that snake through an impressive collection of parks and publicly owned waterfront property overlooking the Mississippi river. The quiet streets and uneventful evenings, which are so common in Mendota Heights, may be less than appealing to younger people interested in a robust nightlife; however, this quaint suburb is a mere five minute drive from downtown Saint Paul which, in turn, is only a ten minute drive from downtown Minneapolis.

Mendota Heights is a small town between the twin cities of Minneapolis and St Paul and consists mostly of homes with a few apartment complexes and very few businesses. Most people have lived in Mendota Heights for years and enjoy the small town feeling and are not keen to outsiders. The school district is small and while it has gifted programs for elementary and middle school, they are not offered in practice.
