World-renowned bourbon, amazing local restaurants, beautiful hiking and parks make Louisville a great place to live. Unfortunately, the public transportation here sucks, so be warned.

This is the lavish city in which the Kentucky Derby takes place. Celebrities and other big name people flock here around this time. It’s only the largest cave system known to the world. There are countless lakes, rivers and creeks and lots of national forests.

We have great southern food and hospitality. Everything in my city is within a 30-minute commute. The housing market is cheaper than most surrounding cities. We experience all four seasons, summer, winter and fall. We rarely ever get a lot of snow. Our state tax is only six percent on every dollar.

I think someone moving to Louisville should know what it has to offer. First, I would want to know about the different neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods are culturally abundant, where others are more cookie-cutter. Secondly, I would research the economic opportunities in the urban and suburban areas. Next, I would consider the local weather. Finally, I would check the crime rates in each of Louisville’s districts. Those four areas would be my main concern when moving to Louisville.

Before relocating to the city Louisville, one must first understand what Louisville is, actually. We are a Metropolitan community. The biggest difference between us and the standard US city is it’s actual size. While “city limits” contains what one would expect the size of our city to be, the “Metro Area” is much larger, and can folks living or work in the outlying areas may have commutes of a much greater distance, day to day. Thus, presenting point number two: It would be best if they owned a personal vehicle.

One of my favorite things about my city are the amazing public parks with walking tracks, sports fields, and trails for hiking. One negative thing about moving to Louisville is that it can be tricky to get your kids into a good public school depending on where you live.

But you will need to have your own vehicle, though, because public transportation in the city is very expensive. Luckily, all the most vital stores are in one place downtown. When picking an apartment or house, be sure it’s near downtown.
