Lome is the capital of Togo, a West African country. It’s the most important city in the country and also the economic one.

HELPFUL REPORT

Lomé is the capital of Togo, a very narrow country only 45 km wide. It ends abruptly at the Ghanaian border, being one of the very few capital cities in the world to actually have a border within its urban fabric. It is therefore limited in its expansion west (because of its border situation) and south (due to being a coastal city). Although it has been sprawling to the east and north, it’s still a fairly compact city and most services and points of interest are within 20 minutes or less from any other point.

Lomé is the only Capital city in the world that sits on a border. The city is crowded with motorbikes commonly called Zemidjan. As a visitor, you should look forward to the beaches and hospitable people. Also, remember, to try the food: Akoumè, Fufu, Veyi, etc. that if you are white, you will be called Yovo, and unfortunately sometimes be treated differently, as you may expect when traveling.
