Leiden is like a tiny, less touristy Amsterdam. It has cute cafes, an amazing Saturday market and a beautiful old cinema (Trianon). Plenty of international students and expaters live here.

If you are used to a loud, sprawling city with endless streets to discover, this will be a major change for you. Leiden is a quiet yet student-friendly city, with a cafe on each corner and charming canals dotted with bridges. Most people speak English here, so there’s no need to worry about learning Dutch.
