Lakeville’s namesake is an amusing misnomer. Although the town boasts having seven lakes, one of which is the largest body of water in Massachusetts besides the Quabbin Reservoir in the western part of the state, all of them are actually called ponds! Thus we have Assawompset Pond, Long Pond, Clear Pond, etc. So why isn’t the town called Pondville, then?
