There is a winter festival called Knickerbocker. On Saturday morning local artists are given large blocks of ice lined along the sidewalks of downtown. They spend all morning carving the blocks into ice sculptures. Everyone can walk around and watch them work as well as participate in family activities that spill into the rest of the weekend.

Lake Mills, Wisconsin, has about 5,000 people. The heart of Lake Mills is downtown. With a park directly in the middle and small-businesses circled around, downtown is vibrant and exudes small-town pride on every corner. From Christmas tree lightings to community band concerts to family events, and the sense of family that downtown helps facilitate is one of the most important things in Lake Mills.
