Kraków is the former capital of Poland and UNESCO’s City of Literature 2019. The city was closely connected with Saint Pope John Paul II – he lived, studied and worked here. In Kraków – Łagiewniki there is the Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy and the original miraculous image of Merciful Jesus.

HELPFUL REPORT

Here are some tips before settling down in this traditional, somewhat conservative city. Do not expect any overtly friendly attitudes from the locals, especially not the older generation. Most of them cannot speak English and those who can, don’t have the confidence to practice. Therefore, my most important tip- learn Polish as quickly as possible. You will immediately feel more welcome and the locals will appreciate your willingness to try and speak their language. My second tip, and perhaps even more important than the first, find a love for vodka. It’s everywhere and forms an integral part of this country and its history.
