The city of Independence is a diverse community with many attractions and restaurants available for people to enjoy. The area has emerged from years of leading the country in drug-related issues, but has shown the ability to be resilient. Rather than continuing down the spiral of a drug infested community, the city has began to implement many programs to address the issues and now is a sought out location for area residents.

Independence is a very busy city with a lot of options for food and entertainment. We have excellent parks for the whole family. Our police department is very strong and collected. We have a lot of grocery stores to choose from that are clean and managed correctly. The people are kind and polite.

Independence is an old town with a rich history. It served as a jumping off point to the west, with many wagon trails stopping here to be supplied for the arduous journey west. Additionally, Truman lived here and you can still follow his daily walking trail by following the posted signs around the main square. In summer, there is a great craft festival called Santa-Cali-Gon featuring many local artisans.
