Ilorin is the capital of Kwara State. It is the 7th known largest city by population in Nigeria. Ilorin was founded by the Yoruba; one of the three largest ethnic groups in Nigeria, in 1450. It became a provincial military headquarters of the ancient Oyo Empire and later became a Northern Nigeria protectorate when Shehu Alimi, an itinerant Islamic preacher and teacher took control of the city through the spread of Islam. The city is a confluence of cultures, populated by the Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Fulani, Nupe, Bariba and Kanuri tribes from across Nigeria, as well as foreign nationals. There are large Christian and Islamic populations and many ceremonial activities, mostly with religious aspects, take place in the city throughout the year.

The city is a peaceful place, unstable for child training and family living at large. There are also chances of getting well paying jobs as a means of income. However, the height of instability pertaining to the road movements due to traffic, should be highly considered. But in all, the city is one of the most beautiful places.

Although, Ilorin has more of Islamic inhabitants, it does not operate the Sharia law. Also, Ilorin has a lot of nice places. There are malls, supermarkets, universities and other tertiary institutions, so the person should be ready to go visiting. If the person is yet to get an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, I recommend studying at the university of Ilorin, being that it is more sophisticated and advanced.

It’s fantastic here Ilorin. If you desire moving here, have your own electric generator because power is never constant. You must also seriously consider having your own water supply–a borehole will be fine–as municipal water supplies are never reliable. It’s also very hot here, and except you love hot climates, you’ll need to install your own cooling system. Now, if you’re wondering why I described Ilorin as being fantastic, it is because it makes you independent–independent of public amenities.

Ilorin is like the main capital city of Kwara State. The city is at the north of Nigeria, rich in cultural heritage and tourism. Considered peaceful and pride itself as one of the most accommodating area to live in as to low cost of living compared to other parts of the country. The area is tourist friendly and the people are accommodating too. You should visit sometime though. You’ll love it, I promise.
