Hamburg has a population of roughly one million people. Tax rates start at approximately 40% for the lowest tax bracket, and increases as one moves upwards through the tax brackets. Hamburg itself is an individual county within Germany. This is comparable to the county infrastructure in the USA. Hamburg has a maritime temperate climate, with frequent rainfall occurring year-round. Winters are cold enough for snowfall to occur a few days during winter. However, most of winter time precipitation falls in the form of rain.

When relocating to Hamburg, or Germany in general, one must register their new address with the Meldbehörde (i.e., The Registration authorities) in their area of jurisdiction. The registration is the most important step when relocating to Germany; you are provided with a registration certificate which is needed for many other tasks (e.g., when opening a bank account, finding a job etc.).
