Halifax is a town in the Yorkshire Pennines. It is famous for the production of woollen cloth from medieval times to now. It has some fine houses built by wealthy cloth manufacturers. It is also famous for a diarist, Anne Lister, whose life was shown in a recent BBC television production, ‘Gentleman Jack’.

There are lots of hills in Halifax, so you need to be fit if you want to walk from the bottom of the town centre to the top without stopping. It also rains all the time. It can go from sunny to raining in a matter of minutes, so always have a coat.
