Grass Valley is a small town with its sister city being Nevada City located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Both are renown for the discovery of gold in the region making it a popular tourist destination with a wonderful atmosphere to experience all four seasons. It is one hour or less from the Capital of California (Sacramento), two hours from San Francisco, as well as a couple hours to Lake Tahoe, a spectacular high mountain lake in the adjacent state of Nevada. There is a ton of recreational options including cycling, mountain biking, river & lake sports…all quickly within reach.

Grass Valley is in the foothills, so it’s a bit colder than it is in the valley. It’s close to Lake Tahoe, and there is a bustling downtown district you can visit. However, since there are many highways running throughout the city, you will probably need a car to get around.
