Gateshead, it must be noted, although not geographically distant from Newcastle, is considered by locals to be indistinguishable from its neighbouring city. Separated by the river Tyne, the seven bridges spanning this body of water are quite distinct from each other and therefore echo the differences between the two locations.
Gateshead is south of the Tyne, opposite Newcastle upon Tyne. It is a vibrant town, with many local attractions. These include ‘The Sage’, a music venue, and ‘The Baltic Mills’, an art gallery. Gateshead has good transport links by road and rail and is a very pleasant place.
Gateshead and Newcastle are well known for their nightlife, and so if one likes to party, there are few better places. However, what I enjoy most about this area is that everything a person might need in terms of basic necessities can be found within a very small area. Therefore, it is easy to walk everywhere, relying very little on public transport.
