If you are moving to Friday Harbor, be prepared for island life. The ferry system to the mainland isn’t always reliable and it is packed in the summer months when the population doubles due to tourists and summer inhabitants. This is a very friendly town with lots of local cultural events and fabulous outdoor activities from whale watching, walking or biking trails from along the coast or deep in the northern forests, to kayaking and island hopping. And the mild temperatures make an outdoor life accessible for everyone. Cons; Island life means limited and often expensive supplies. Also, the housing market is incredibly expensive.

A nice place to live if you are financially well-off. Being an island, everything is about 25% more expensive than the mainland. Ferry travel gets more expensive every year, and with the crush of summer tourists, is difficult and time consuming with a car. That said, we have a mild climate and low crime rate, clean air, and lots of wildlife.

This town is on a small island forming part of the archipelago named The San Juan Islands. Access is by ferry, plane or boat. We are a tourist driven community, but many residents are retired with disposable income with both groups contributing immensely to the prosperity of businesses here.

Friday Harbor is on an island in the San Juan Archipelago of Washington State. Visitors can only access the town via ferries that service the town multiple times a day. Every year, 1,000s of tourists flock to San Juan Island and Friday Harbor to enjoy the natural beauty, quaint town, and pleasant climate.
