A person moving to Florence should learn about the history surrounding the area. The city’s rich history spans the areas of music, gastronomy, and infrastructure. One of the big names that recorded near Florence is Aretha Franklin, of the song, “RESPECT.” A local restaurant of the name, Trowbridge’s, has been around longer than most people in town can remember, keeping us all cool with old school flavored ice cream.

Anyone coming to visit Florence, Alabama should know most residents are enthusiastic college football fans. There is a constant rivalry between the Auburn University fans and the University of Alabama fans, which can get heated. I recommend coming around Handy Fest, where blues music is all around and everyone comes together downtown.

Florence is a hidden gem in northern Alabama. It is part of a larger network of small towns referred to as The Shoals. If you are looking for a weekend destination, this place has something for everyone. There are tasty southern restaurants, world-famous music studios, and plenty of lakes and rivers for the outdoor enthusiast.
