Dumfries is a small town in South West Scotland. It has a rich history which is evident from a stroll around the town centre. Scots poet Robert Burns resided in Dumfries with his wife Jean Armour, both of whom have statues that overlook the River Nith. There is a fantastic selection of shops, both department and boutique, with quaint cafes and tearooms offering samples of traditional Scottish cuisine. A trip to Dumfries would not be complete without a visit to Scotland’s oldest theatre, the Theatre Royal, built in 1792.
