It is close to a major city, Montréal, with all of its advantages. It is also just far enough from it to be quieter and very family-friendly. You also get to live with both official languages in harmony. Even though my city’s residents are mostly francophone with a god knowledge of a English, they tolerate anglophone newcomers very well, especially when they make the effort to learn and use limited French.
Dollard-Des-Ormeaux is very beautiful, having said that, one should consider a decent amount of municipal and school tax to pay. There are few flood zones near the river. having your house near Des-sources boulevard is really helpful as there are lots of convenient stores nearby which are open 24 hours.
