Our city was ruled by great King called Adhiyaman who gave Nellikani to famous tamil poet Avvaiyar. In the memory of giving precious fruit the city was called Dharmapuri. At first it named as Thagadoor, later it changed to Dharmapuri. There is a famous river called Cauvery which flows through Dharmapuri.
