Despatch is a small town in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa situated between Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage. The name is derived from its brick industry history on the account that bricks were dispatched from the original railway siding. These bricks were used to build many of Port Elizabeth’s and Uitenhage’s houses. Sadly, the brick industry is a remnant of the past.
Despatch is a beautiful city. It is large, but has an amazing small-town feel. As it is a part of the Nelson Mandela Metropole, Despatch has all amenities one needs within driving distance. A lovely town, with amazing beaches and picturesque countryside close by, Despatch is a great place to call home.
