Bologna is a beautiful city in Northern Italy, known for its delicious food, its winding streets, and its rich history. It is the main city of the Emilia-Romagna region, and is often referred as “La Grassa” (the Fat One) due to its culinary prowess. Bologna is home to the oldest university in the world, the Alma Mater Studiorum, and of the longest porticoes in Europe. If you are looking for a city that is rich in history, culture and food (yes! delicious food), Bologna is the perfect place for you.

Before uprooting one’s life to live in Bologna, hopeful expats should consider that Bologna revolves around Europe’s oldest university, UNIBO. Yearly 40,000 students crowd Bolognesi streets and cafes — which gives Bologna a youthful ambiance. However, while the city attracts many Italian youth, post-graduate residents have complained that the city does not present many opportunities for budding professionals.

Bologna is a city full of culture and diversity. There are students from all over the world that choose Bologna as their exchange year. It’s the home of a lot of different and small realities, especially when it comes to students’ associations that spread knowledge about gender, race and feminism.
