Blacksburg is a bucolic city with urban problems. The city faces gentrification, limited parking, gridlocked traffic, and a skyrocketing cost of living. Anyone moving to Blacksburg should consider seeking housing in a neighboring town, such as Christiansburg, Radford, or Newport. Residents frequently complain about Blacksburg landlords’ unscrupulous business practices.

Blacksburg has been praised as one of the greatest towns in America to raise children. The city hosts Virginia Tech, a university with around 25,000 students. The university provides for most of Blacksburg’s economy, and always has events and performances to attend. Blacksburg has the feeling of a small town, while Virginia Tech provides big cultural and learning opportunities for all community members.
