Belize City is the largest city in Belize and was once the capital of the former British Honduras. The city was almost entirely destroyed in 1961 when Hurricane Hattie swept ashore on October 31. The city was also hit hard by Hurricane Richard in 2010 and by the 2016 Hurricane Earl. Fires on the North-side and South side have burnt out great stretches of housing, but the fire department was able to quench most of these. The city is also susceptible to flooding in the rainy season.

Before moving to Belize City, it is best to mainly be prepared for heavy humidity. Among other things, the best way to cool off would be to go to B. T. L. park. Secondly, do not hesitate to jump on a water ferry and enjoy the sea and wind on the islands. It is only 45 minutes away. The island life is go slow.

Belize City is the only English speaking country and city in Central America. The city by itself is an island and is divided into two parts north and south side. The city has about 75,000 people in the area and is only five square miles. The city is usually quiet at night by 9:00 pm and is safe.
