Awka is a small town and the capital of Anambra State. The cost of Living is high from accommodation, transportation and feeding. The percentage of civil servants in the city is 60% to non civil servants. I will always advice anyone moving to Awka to have a Plan B apart from the normal salary like myself. I have layers chicken that always give me a daily income because I sell the eggs on a daily basis.
Awka is a commercial city in the southeast region of Nigeria. It sits beautifully on the heart of Anambra; also serving as the capital of the State. The city is always busy during the day with commercial activities cut across several sectors. The city has a large land mass, with a unique environment that any one from any part of the world can easily adapt to, without much stress. As a student, I love this city because, aside commercial venture activities; it as well serves as the host city for two Giant Universities: Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The first thing a tourist sees upon entering my city is the poor road network. The roads are so bad that the thought of traveling poses a daunting task. This is one of the many problems faced by people in the city. The next is the level of unemployment among the citizens. This in turn has lead to an alarming increase in the level of armed robbery attacks faced by everyone both the poor and the rich as young men and women who are frustrated by the constant decline in the economic situation turn to lots of nefarious activities to survive.
Housing problem, the rate of unemployment among the citizens and lack of basic amenities are first among the numerous problems faced by people in my city. Also, the citizens are usually exposed to various decrees of insecurity and in many cases, are the targets of disgruntled and trigger-happy police officers. In order words, the survival rate of the citizens in my city is usually very minute compared to other places.

The price of houses for rent or for sale are quite average, one wouldn’t have to spend a lot to acquire a living space. It is a safe place, there are rarely any cases of murder, rape, robbery, and others. The transportation fare however, is quite expensive, and to an extent there is electricity. There is presence of clean water, and the price of groceries and other foodstuff is not so high.
