Athens, Texas, is a small east Texas city about 45 minutes west of Tyler. The only things to do are to go to church, Walmart, and football games. Being in a small town gives you plenty of opportunities to slow down, deepen relationships, and spend quality time with each other.
Athens is a small, East Texas town. With a population of only 12,000, it’s a tight-knit community. Athens is “The Home of the Hamburger”. As is the case with many small towns, the shopping and dining choices are few, with many being of the fast food variety. For eateries and entertainment, locals often travel 35 miles to Tyler, or make the two hour drive to Dallas.
