Someone moving to Alamogordo should know while it is a desert environment, the city experiences a short monsoon season yearly. In late summer, the typically dry climate becomes humid, and is often besieged by rain and thunderstorms descending from the mountains. As a result, some parts of the city are considered to be in flood zones.
