It is important for one to consider that there are no bigger cities for the next two hours. There are also three universities, plus a few more trade schools and community colleges. there is a large amount of college students in the city. Abilene is also a very popular retirement town, so a large portion of elderly folk also live in the area.

Abilene is known for being one of the most welcoming small cities in America. It has many world class restaurants and great parks. It is home to Dyess Air Force base, which is one of the best US Air Force bases in the United States. Abilene residents are warm and friendly towards visitors.

Although it is a small city, Abilene has many activities and amenities available. One activity that many enjoy is the local zoo. They have nice exhibits including giraffes that you can feed. Abilene is known as the Storybook Capital and has statues from children’s books throughout downtown. The City of Abilene is also home to Dyess Air Force base.
